Special Workshop in Chasing and Repoussé 2009.
In 2007, in 2008, and again in 2009 we hosted a workshop in Chasing and Repoussé, given by the world famous silversmith and master chaser Valentin Yotkov.
The workshops were great successes, not at least because of Valentin Yotkov´s pleasant and giving way of teaching. We hope that also the facilities, we could offer at The Rutsker Holiday Resort contributed to the success.
Some of last years' students have asked us to repeat the workshop, and Valentin Yotkov gladly agreed to give another workshop here. Unfortunately we have not been able to find a time this year, but the next workshop will take place in the middle of June 2011.
About the techniques: after becoming an almost lost art Chasing and Repoussé are currently experiencing a modern renaissance amongst silversmiths, jewelry designers and other artists of metalwork. Chasing and repousse are two of the most magnificent techniques in metalsmithing.
Chasing and Repoussé allow us to sculpt intricate designs directly in metal such as gold silver and copper. Goldsmiths from many great cultures such as Greek, Roman and Thracian have created timeless gold and silver treasures which amaze us with their beauty and perfection even today.

Valentin Yotkov is famous for his fantastic chasing and repoussé work, which has been on exhibition all over the world.
In 1970 Valentin Yotkov began his education in Bulgaria by studying art and art history. He was later apprenticed to a silversmith, and at the age of 22 he became the youngest member ever of the National Guild of Silversmiths of Bulgaria. |
Valentin Yotkov has exhibited his extraordinary works in Japan, Greece, Germany, Russia, Italy, Mexico, India, China and the U.S.A. But not only is Valentin Yotkov a famous silversmith, he is also an extraordinary teacher. He is knowledgable, kind, and caring and always focused on the students' needs and situation.
Today Valentin Yotkov resides in the United States with his family, where – in 1994 – he founded The Valentin Yotkov Studio, the only school in the United States specialising in the instruction of chasing and repoussé work.
The workshop will be conducted in English and spans 5 days to be announced. Lessons will begin in the morning and go on until mid afternoon with a lunch break at noon and a coffee/tea break during morning and afternoon.
Fees covering workshop, shared material expenses, accommodation , all meals during the workshop, entrance fees and transportation on excursions to be announced. |
