Jewellery Making Classes - Class Description:
|
Our classses are open to beginners as well as experienced participants. Each class will be adapted to the actual knowledge and experience of each individual participant, who will have the opportunity to work with silver- and goldsmithing techniques and make their own personal jewellery.

Beginners will start “from scratch” with simple tasks, and gradually, as the need arises, be introduced to goldsmithing techniques such as: sawing, drilling, filing, hard-soldering, pickling, grinding, polishing, buffing, oxidation and surface treatment.
|
|
You will have the opportunity of casting in sand and sepia shells and drawing wire by hand and in a draw bench as well as rolling sheet and wire.
Time permitting, we will also do bezel and tube setting of stones.

Material Knowledge:
During the class we will take you through the fundamentals of material knowledge: The different physical characteristics of gold, silver and copper, their malleability and ductility, and the reaction of the materials to the various processes: working, annealing etc.

We study the most generally used gem stones and their characteristics, and discuss what to pay special attention to when setting.
Design:
On the basis of our students’ ideas and wishes for making specific pieces of jewellery, we look at various design aspects.

For experienced students we are prepared to go into special techniques, such as advanced setting methods and wax-casting techniques. Take this up with your instructor prior to the course.
